Athletic Trainers in Florida usually need a Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification at the Healthcare Provider level. Required skills include; Adult, child and infant CPR, AED, and use of a bag-valve-mask. Some Athletic Trainers may also need a First Aid course as well, but this is determined by the employer.
Athletic Trainers in Florida are required to do the Basic Life Support level of CPR certification for Healthcare Providers that includes a practical skills evaluation through in person or blended training process. 100% online CPR will only be an option upon the discretion of the employer or institution and is not accepted by the state licensing department or for continuing education credits for Athletic Trainers.
Some employers may require a specific type of training, or may leave it up to the State’s requirement. If you are not certain of your employer's requirement, make sure to check with them about both the training type and the required course content.

Athletic Trainers (ATs) must be able to demonstrate ongoing certification in ECC throughout the reporting period. Although continuing education units (CEUs) are not awarded for ECC certification, ATs need to be current with the ECC requirements throughout the reporting period. The Florida Board of Athletic Training requires Athletic Trainers to maintain a Healthcare Provider level CPR certification with a practical skills component that is BOC approved.
64B33-2.003 Requirements for Continuing Education.(2) For purposes of this rule, an applicant or licensee certified by the Board of Certification (BOC) or its successor during the biennium can demonstrate compliance with the continuing education requirements of this rule by entering his or her BOC certification number and submitting a copy of his or her active certification card in the CE tracking system, along with proof of completion of (a) the prevention of medical errors course, and (b) current cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of an automated external defibrillator at the professional rescue level (e.g. Basic Life Support or higher certification).
